My Understanding of Happiness

What is happiness? This question has been asked for centuries all over the world. As we can't find two pieces of leaves are the same in the world, everyone of us is different from each other. We each stick to our argument for the understanding of happiness. The poverty regard happiness as sufficient food and ample clothes; children feel happy when they do not need to be exposed to endless schoolwork; people who endure the pain of the disease will be happy if they can regain their fitness. As far as I am concerned, happiness is a combination of three elementary factors which are health, optimism, cherishing what we have now. Then, I will state my aspects in the following part of this composition.

As an old saying goes, the body is the revolutionary qualification, and health is the fundamentality of our body. We will finally accomplish nothing if we don’t have a healthy body. Whatever a man want to do, a good body condition can make him yield twice the result with half the effort. There was a time when I was seriously ill. Actually, I thought it was the most horrible time in my life. For my unwillingness to miss my final examination, I didn’t go to hospital in time. When I was in hospital, my condition was intractable. I could do nothing except to lie in bed and take injections from morning to night. It was the first time I felt so helpless and hopeless. And this kind of situation lasted nearly two

months. In the day I left hospital, I felt unprecedented happy. Only when I lost my fitness did I know how happy I am when I regain it. Nowadays, thousands of people squander their health when they are young, various diseases will knock down them when they get older. In a word, health is an elementary factor for people to attain happiness.

In addition, having a positive attitude toward life is a significant component element of happiness. My grandmother always tells me that difficulties arise in the lives of us all, and what is most important is dealing with the hard times, coping with the changes, and getting through to the other side where the sun is still shining just for you.We don’t know what will happen in our life, and we cannot choose what to happen. However, we can change ourselves. I believe that an optimistic man never gets too near to misfortune. As we all know, Helen Keller is blind since she was born. She experienced a tough time before she met her life mentor, Anne Sullivan. It took Anne a tremendous amount of time, physical strength, and patience to reach into the mind of little Helen. Fortunately, through Anne’s unremitting efforts, Helen no longer abandoned herself and became a child who loved life. Therefore, there has been a world-famous educator named Helen Kellerencourages dozens of people who struggle for life. At least, we don’t have health problems like Helen. We normal people should keep a positive attitude toward life. In some degree, whether you feel happy depend on whether

you are positive or not.

Last but not least, Itruly believe thatcherishing what we have now is a critical element depends on whether we will feel happy. Hawthorne once said that happiness was a butterfly, which, when pursued, was always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you would sit down quietly, may alight upon you. From ancient times to the present, people are accustomed to pursuing happiness, which results them forget what they have and don’t cherish things they possess. When people chase what they think will make them feel happy, they can gradually lose themselves. The poverty think money can make them happy, so they achieve their goals by fair means or foul; the officials think power can make them happy, so they do everything they can to gain what they want; the artists think reputation can make them happy, so they go with the stream to cater market requirements. Driven by these interests, people have already forgotten their original willing. They live for desire not for happiness. When they realize what they have lost in the end, happiness has gone away. All in all, cherishing what we have now, and do not abandon what we have to chase those interests, then, you will find it that happiness is always with you.

All reasons I mention above are my understanding of happiness. To draw a conclusion, happiness consists of three aspects: health,

optimism, cherishing what we have now. Health let us have a good body condition, which is the elementary guarantee of happiness; optimism let us face difficulties and have a good attitude toward life, which is the intellectual impetus of happiness; cherishing what we have now let us realize what we really need, which is the origin of happiness.
